FROM THEORY TO PRACTICE: PARTICIPANT INTERPRETATION OF RESEARCH RESULTS

SUE BEETON

This paper considers the practical application of an approach based on the methodological theories of cooperative inquiry and action research in relation to community development. In order to develop a practical research method, the theories have been modified and tested in the field. The research subjects were given the opportunity to actually interpret the results based on their world-views. The findings were of considerable interest; however, issues of participation and commitment were found. Further consideration and application of this particular approach will provide interesting and significant results.

Keywords: participant interpretation, community development, community tourism, interpretive research, community-based research.
